Inscription: According to traditional accounts, Toby Tubby was the last Chicksaw chief in this area. A prosperous landowner, he operated a ferry across the Tallahatchie River on the stage road to Memphis until his death ca.1835. He was buried on a mound about 1 1/4 miles north of this site on the banks of the creek that bears his name.
