L. Q. C. Lamar House

Marker Erected:  1989

Location:  North 14th Street

  Location Directions:  From the stop light at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Highway 6, travel east on Highway 6 until you reach the Lamar Blvd. exit.  Take a left on Lamar and continue North until you have gone through the Square.  Take a right on Jefferson Blvd.  Then take a left on 14th Street.  When you are a couple of houses from the end, the site and marker will be on your right.  Click here for a map.

Inscription:  L. Q. C. Lamar House:  Home of Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar from 1868 to 1888.  Lamar was an educator at the University of Mississippi; a colonel 19th Mississippi Infantry C.S.A.; a U. S. congressman; senator; Secretary of the Interior; and an associate judge of the U. S. Supreme Court.  This property was designated a National Historic Landmark on May 15, 1975.
